On 25.01.2024, the “Krastyo Tsonchev” Lawyer Training Center organized ethics training for judges, prosecutors and lawyers. The training is carried out under the HELP program of the Council of Europe.

The training is related to ethics, as in recent years concerted efforts have been made at European level to prevent the degradation of the rule of law through measures aimed at the good functioning of national justice systems.

Judges, prosecutors and lawyers occupy a critical and sensitive place in society; the way they behave directly affects public trust and the administration of justice. Therefore, they have an obligation to maintain the highest ethical behavior. There are international standards providing guidelines for ethical behavior and the basic principles of these professions. Independence, impartiality and integrity underpin the rule of law in a healthy democracy and ensure the protection of human rights.

That is why the topic of ethics is not only relevant and necessary, but is a point of contact between the various professional communities for the affirmation of the Rule of Law.

Judge Kalina Stancheva and Judge Radoslav Angelov from the Sofia District Court and junior prosecutor Georgi Kodjanikolov – Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office will take part in the training. In their training, they will present the possibilities of the Judicial Ethics Platform of the NIP and its possibilities for training and obtaining information. The importance of ethics in preserving the independence and impartiality of the judiciary will also be presented through the lens of the relationship between the lawyer and the magistrates.

The NIP’s platform for judicial ethics unites not only magistrates, but also representatives of the bar, in whose section justice and independence should be established.
